bike run swim

The weekend stayed cool and drizzly but pretty comfortable. We got a little wet on our long bike ride but Sunday was just cloudy. The training wasn't anything more than the past few weekends but for some reason totally wiped me out! I was really sore after the ride and felt sluggish on the run. I didn't have any energy to do anything social and got about 10 hours of sleep each night, plus a couple naps. I was definitely eating enough and didn't drink anything until Sunday evening so I don't know what it was. Anyway, enough complaining! I had a lot of fun doing everything and feel strong and confident overall. Here are the details on Saturday's 3 hr ride, Sunday's 8 mile run and short OWS:

Saturday: bike
47.9 miles/3:08:08/15.2 MPH
Washington County countryside/foothills loop
Awesome! There's a few little climbs but mostly flat and fast. It's a mix of farmland and forested foothills. We had some light rain for about half the ride but the roads weren't slick or anything. I had fun on the easy/fast parts and stayed pretty level-headed during the headwinds/hills/hard parts. I had a strong surge at the end that took Zach by surprise! We definitely had a negative split pace.

Sunday: run
8.0 miles/1:09:17/8:40 average pace
We drove out to Blue Lake Park where our tri is next weekend and got our run in out there. I was dragging ass but got the miles in. Zach stuck with me the whole time which was really nice of him. :)

Sunday: swim
600 yards/12:30
Zach wore my Garmin in his swim cap (in a ziploc bag) so we knew the approximate distance we swam. The Garmin wasn't damaged at all which I was a little disappointed about, I really want a new one. Haha. :P

I was super tired all day Sunday again and super starving. Deana and Dana came over later and we spent the rest of the day enjoying chips and salsa, fresh cherries, Bridgeport brews, and strawberry daiquiris. It was so fun but left me extra tired this Monday morning... not so fun. I'm still working on finding that healthy balance between being eating too little and too much... I didn't know it would be this hard! This week I'm going to eat really good and get lots of sleep so I am ready to race on Sunday! :)

Here are the totals from a pretty exhausting week:
swim: 2:15 (5000 y)
bike: 5:00 (70 miles road)
run: 2:45 (18.25 miles)
total: 10:00
(plus one gym weights session)

Here are a few pictures from last week.

Saturday's bike ride. Um, it was cold.

A couple of floats from the Rose Parade and some close-ups of the flowers:

Have a great week everyone!

Whoohoo! Negative split! Sounds like you had a great weekend! And those flowers? Ahh..I'm sure they smelled amazing! When I win the lotto - there will always be fresh flowers all over my house!! (I'll send you some too) :)

That new Garmin is pretty sweet - a friend of mine works for their corp office and does most of their print work.

your flowers pics are amazing! and i laughed at the idea of the garmin in the swim cap...whatever works i guess! i know what you mean about eating too much vs. eating too little. tell me if you figure it out!

No worries, everyone gets their headlight turned on every once in a while. ;) I'm sort of in a permanent state of such because I'm always cold.

As for Garmy, they're coming out with a new and improved version of the Forerunner 405...I don't know what it's supposed to do now, do your taxes, change your oil, wash your dishes..? I'll stick with my 305 until it completely dies.

Wow, stunning pix.

Some workouts are just harder than others and somedays we are more sluggish than others. I hate it when it happens, but it is all part of the training cycle and helps to make us feel that much more awesome when we do have the good workouts. Sorry that you felt sluggish though, that feeling always blows.

Loved your post workout feast on Sunday-yum!

P.S. LOVE that bit about 10 hrs of sleep plus naps-that is so my standard :)

What beautiful flowers! I remember driving by the rose parade last year on the way to get my hair done. Maybe next year I'll actually really see some of it.

Your workouts were super impressive. Look at all those biking miles! I'm so impressed.

I'm working on learning how much I need to eat vs how much my stomach will let me eat. I'm all about operation healthy!

P.S. I so didn't get why you said it was cold until I read someone's comment about the "headlights." HAHA!

The eating is so hard. I'm still trying to get a handle on having enough energy to train but staying fit. It's hard! Plus if you're trying to have a life... yikes. Great training weekend, though. Portland seems so awesome this time of year.

Stop talking about Bridgeport brews - you're making me nostalgic!

I thought you'd be coming into summer by now. Winter has really hit down here - they've forecasted snow to 600m for tonight.

All I can think of is low iron or not enough carbs for the low energy - your last week was pretty big, so maybe it's a hangover from that. Good luck this week!

Nice week honey - give yourself some credit and it's going to wear you out..

HOwever I'm having an iron test myself this week and my GP, who is a runner, says it's very common amongst women and runners and even a minor lack of iron has big consequences. So get tested!

fantastic rides, swims and runs!!!! those flower pictures are beautiful - i would print those suckers out and frame them! not sure if you read DC rainmakers blog, but he has a detailed description about how to swim with the Garmin on your head ;)

What a good idea about the garmin. I have never been good at sighting distances. Looks like your smokin' the bike too!You have been triaining so hard, it's no wonder your a little tired out. Be good to you body and it'll be good to you.

I totally understand how hard it is to balance between eating too litle and too much. I'm glad you met up with your freind and let it go a little.

p.s. thanks for your kind comments on my last post. You definitly made me feel better about the whole thing.

wow - it was a bit cold on your bike ride, wasn't it? heh.

great workout weekends! balancing my eating was so much easier when I wasn't an athlete.

Can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks - it's been so long! Are you ready to kick my ass at the push-up challenge?

OMG, this post made me LAUGH! Especially the one where you appear to be a raisin smuggler. (My costume one year for Halloween was "raisin smuggler" and no one go it. I was in San Diego so maybe this is the norm there?)

Anywhoo - funny on the Garmin in the cap. I wanna wear a Garmin during the race but I can't, can I? How do you manage Garmin usage during a triathlon? Seriously - can I wear my HRM band during the swim, then put the device on my wrist when I get to transition? Maybe I don't really need it or care, but I sorta do....

So many questions!

Such beautiful flowers!!

I think your body might just be catching up with your workouts - I had that "wall" near the end of my first month of yoga bootcamp - Just be aware of how your feeling in the next weeks :)

Great job!

Um, Emily's post is hilarious!!

I always had a lot of trouble getting my eating needs right when I was training for triathlons. It's been a lot easier for me with just running. I'm not exactly sure why that is. I'm guessing that the energy demands of swimming, cycling and running are so different.

Way to be proud of the cold :)
